The Burrard Bridge bike lane will become permanent

The $2-million renovation project gets green light from City Council

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - If the Burrard Bridge bike lane has become an important part of your daily commute, you won't have to break your habit any time soon. Vancouver City Council voted unanimously to go ahead with recommendations to upgrade the structure which would make the bike lane permanent.

The $2-million project was proposed by city staff last weekend to design permanent cycling barriers on the bridge. The argument was that a permanent structure would take up less road space and would be more aesthetically compatible with the span than the current pre-cast concrete dividers.

The vote coincided with another momentous occasion for the biking community. The City of Vancouver is celebrating a milestone for the bike lane as well. The one-millionth cyclist used the bike lane Wednesday evening.
