Many who live in the area bike to work

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The Strathcona neighbourhood in Vancouver has been busy rebuilding its image.  The community is one step closer to becoming Vancouver's 'green zone.'

The Strathcona Business Improvement Association says it's getting a reputation for its green concept.

Executive Director Joji Kumagai says a $20,000 grant from the City of Vancouver will be spent to encourage a green commute.  "We'll have very distinct bike racks that have artistic elements to them.  What we can do then is announce to everybody you're in a Strathcona area, in an area that really promotes sustainability and green initiatives."

Hundreds of the area's business owners reportedly bike to work already and that number is expected to rise when the bike racks arrive next spring.
