Vancouver (NEWS1130) - Four horses have died at this year's Calgary Stampede and while officials at the event call them unpredictable and sad, critics are fuming. Three of those deaths happened on Monday.
An outrider horse suffered a shoulder injury and had to be put down.
One horse died after an apparent heart attack, and another was euthanized after suffering a broken back.
Peter Ficker with the Vancouver Humane Society feels the show is outdated. "Again we feel that the event is putting those horses under unnecessary stress."
The first horse death happened on the weekend when a horse lost consciousness and stumbled.
Its jockey is in intensive care with serious head injuries and a broken shoulder.
