Not everyone pleased with Spain's fireworks performance

Nine arrests made for public intoxication

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The Vancouver Police weren't only a presence on the ground during the 20th Annual Celebration of Light.  Hundreds of thousands of people took advantage of the sunshine and the weekend to park themselves stage side along English Bay.

Spain filled the sky with red and gold using an eclectic mix of classical pop music on the ground.

Constable Lindsey Houghton says the crowds were very well behaved.  "Our officers met and welcomed tens of thousands of people down to English Bay and Kits Point.  We encouraged people, including everyone who has seen the fireworks many times to have fun."

Houghton adds it wasn't just on land police were vigilant.  The VPD Marine Squad was out patrolling the waters.  Officers checked about 60 boats as they left the dock and while out on the water.

The biggest problem police continue to encounter is open liquor, with 565 pour-outs again last night and nine arrests for public drunkenness.

As for the show, not everyone left satisfied.  Some people we chatted with said the U.S. had set the stage pretty high Wednesday and Spain just didn't pull out all the stops to impress the crowds.

Next up in the festival is Mexico on Wednesday, followed by defending Champs China next Saturday.
