Digital etiquette: when technology takes over dating

On a date? Turn off your phone!

Tanya Fletcher Aug 15, 2010 18:28:51 PM
VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The dating scene has changed drastically over the years, largely because of a whole new world of technology and social media.

Facebook, Twitter, texting, i-Phones, blackberries - we're seeing a digital explosion, and the dating scene here is no exception. And British Columbia is very much on the map and in-tune with all the innovations.

Susan Semeniw with a Vancouver-based matchmaking service says with all these technological tools, our social skills are being put on the back-burner and it shows, even more so on the first date. "People check their Blackberries or answer a phone call. I mean turn your phone off, period. When you are meeting with someone face-to-face, focus on the person across the table from you."

She says nothing in this virtual world will ever replace that one-on-one interaction.
