VANCOUVER (NEWS1130):  City of Vancouver councillors have voted to regulate professional Mixed Martial Arts in the city.  The approval of a two year pilot program clears the way for an Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event at GM Place in June 2010.

Many supporters of MMA spoke before council this morning, emphasiszing the financial and tourism  benefits of hosting shows in the rapidly growing sport.  Some spoke against MMA, but it wasn't enough to prevent council voting in favour of  the two year pilot.

The two year period was one of many regulations tied to council's approval.
