VSO refusing to take part in 2010 opening ceremonies

VANOC wanted to tape the music ahead of time and perform with another conductor

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and its world-renowned conductor, are refusing to take part in the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Games. Bramwell Tovey says he turned down the invitation because organizers told him his music would be taped ahead of time, and then performed by another conductor!

VANOC claims it is standard practice to pre-record musical segments to ensure the "integrity and security" of the broadcast during internationally-televised live shows.  The VSO is still set to take part in three other events during the games, and several members have freelance gigs as well.
