Province reviewing Water Act

Dan Burritt Sep 07, 2010 19:01:00 PM
VICTORIA (NEWS1130) - The province says with climate change and increasing demand putting pressure on water, new rules need to be in place to help preserve the water we have. That includes refreshing the Water Act, which became law in 1909.

The Environment Ministry says it will gather more information from people in the coming months.

The province says updated water laws will encourage people to try and save more water, while the government will control groundwater use in priority areas.

Environment Canada says Canadians use more water than most countries, up to 343 litres, and we pay very little to have it flow into kitchens and bathroom sinks.
