VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Students in Vancouver are starting the school year with fewer teachers, support staff, librarians, principals, and administrators than last year.
The cuts were made over the summer as the school board wrestled with an $18-million deficit.
Patti Bacchus with the Vancouver School Board says the cuts may even make it difficult to get answers about the impact. "Well we went quite heavily into our administration so when you're asking things like what's happening out in the schools, what are you hearing? We have less staff to actually do that work."
There are also talks about permanently closing some schools to save money. Enrolment numbers at the end of the month may have some influence on those decisions.
Some parents and students rallied this week in an effort to draw attention to schools in danger of being shut down.
