Fatal crash at Pacific Highway Border crossing

A man in his 60's is dead after a high-speed accident

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - A man in his 60's is dead after a high-speed accident on the Canadian side of the Pacific Highway Border crossing.

Staff Sergeant Dave Brown with Surrey RCMP explains what happened around 9:30 Tuesday night. "It involved a single motor vehicle that lost control southbound and went onto the median and struck one of the provincial markers that are found in the median, separating south and northbound traffic at the border.  The debris field is very large and speed certainly was a factor."

Brown says the driver was the only person in the vehicle and he hasn't been identified yet. He isn't sure what caused the driver to speed out of control.

He say no one else was hurt but the impact was so powerful that the car battery was ejected and struck another vehicle.  The border crossing was closed for just over two hours last night.
