Cost of 411 going up
More for landlines and cell phones
VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Calling 411 now costs more. Earlier today, Telus upped the charge to $1.50 from 95 cents for people connecting from landlines.
Telus' Shawn Hall says there's an increase for cell phone users as well, "On the wireless side it's two dollars. Now we're going to continue providing information to online and print directory publishers for free and more and more people of course are getting directory assistance online or from phone books."
Hall adds the rates have been unchanged for a few years, "Even as usage of the service has fallen off, as more and more people get directory information online or from phone books. So we need to have a charge in place that better reflects the cost of providing the service to customers."
