MAZATLAN (NEWS1130) - A Mexican man has admitted to the brutal beating of a Calgary woman in the resort town where the attack took place.

Jose Ramon Acosta Quintero, who goes by El Ray, told reporters at a news conference in Mazatlan Saturday that he tried to hold Sheila Nabb in a hotel elevator and punched her several times when she yelled for help.

Quintero adds he snuck into Riu Emerald Bay, the upscale hotel where the attack took place, early in the morning and met the 37-year-old by chance.

Nabb, who was vacationing with her husband, was later found laying in a pool of blood in the elevator.

She will undergo facial reconstruction surgery as several bones in her face were broken in the attack.
