Super Wi-Fi expected to hit Vancouver in spring

Will only be available to Shaw customers

Shane Bigham/Vancouver Sun Sep 14, 2011 10:03:32 AM
VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) - Imagine never having to worry about finding a Wi-Fi connection for your wireless device. That will be the new reality for some people next spring.

Super Wi-Fi networks are already under construction in Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton. Shaw has told the Vancouver Sun it's partnered with Cisco to make it happen. The Vancouver network will cover the entire Lower Mainland.

It will only be available to Shaw customers.

The idea is to blanket the cities with Wi-Fi coverage. Customers will have Internet access on transit, in parks, on the street, and everywhere else. The network should be operating by April or May.

Customers will initially be limited to four devices on the Wi-Fi network, though provisions will be made later on for families with more devices.

The company plans to extend this Wi-Fi blanket over populated areas across Western Canada.
