SKorea: NKorea bolstering control over flow of outside information amid succession process

The Associated Press Mar 03, 2011 00:02:07 AM

SEOUL, South Korea - A top South Korean official says that North Korea is strengthening control over the flow of outside information amid a push to transfer power from leader Kim Jong Il to his youngest son.

Foreign Minister Kim Sung-hwan says in a speech released in advance that North Korea wants a stable succession process.

Kim's speech was to be delivered in a meeting with foreign diplomats in Seoul on Thursday.

The foreign minister says a propaganda campaign promoting Kim Jong Il's son Kim Jong Un is under way in North Korea.

He says that against this backdrop, Pyongyang is increasing control over its society to block the influx of outside information.

Kim Jong Un took over a slew of top state jobs last year.
