MOGADISHU, SOMALIA (NEWS1130) - The UN says the Horn of Africa desperately needs an additionally $103 million to help fight famine.
Currently, 800 tons of high-energy biscuits have been airlifted to help fight the situation in Somalia. That's enough to feed 1.6 million people for a day.

Free the Children has seen some pretty upsetting things during his time in Africa. "Children who are hungry. We see kids here whose hair is starting to patch and fall out. We see children here that tears run down their cheeks."
"We see mothers here who describe their fears for their children and the long-term of what will happen in the weeks and months and the small amount of food they have, runs out," he adds.
Aid workers say the key to making real progress is getting resources into Somalia instead of leaving starving people to make the journey out themselves. More than 12 million people are suffering from the effects of the worst drought in East Africa in 60 years.
