RICHMOND (NEWS1130) - Security measures at airports across North America have been beefed up and YVR is no exception.  It follows Friday's attempted terrorist attack on board a Northwest Airlines flight heading to Detroit.

A Nigerian man is accused of trying to detonate an explosive mixture on the Northwest flight from Amsterdam, but it appears he managed only to burn his own legs.

Rebecca Catley with Vancouver International Airport says anyone flying to the U.S. will be put through a secondary screening.  "When they get to the gate there will be an additional screening, which is a personal check, so a pat-down and their personal belongs will be checked."

Perhaps the biggest change is passengers are now only allowed to carry on board one piece of luggage.  The rest must be checked in.  Catley says as the day progresses the wait time for flights will increase.  For more information or to check your flight status click here.
