Violent daytime sex assault in Vancouver park

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – Vancouver Police are warning women about a violent sex assault in broad daylight in Thornton Park.  It comes after a 43-year-old woman was attacked while walking in the park around 8:30 p.m. Saturday.

Constable Lindsey Houghton says the victim was knocked to the ground and punched in the head before the man began groping her.  “The woman fought off the man and he ran south through the park.  He was not located.”

Houghton adds the park was full of people and there were several witnesses.  “The victim is OK.  She had to go to the hospital for four stitches on her forehead but she is expected to make a full recovery.”

Police are not linking this attack to two sex assaults on two women Friday morning near 7th Ave.and Vine St. 

The suspect in the Thornton Park assault is described as white, 30-40 years old.  He has a medium build, is roughly 5 foot 10 inches tall, is scruffy looking and was wearing a dark coloured top.
