Kenneth Barter to be housed at mental health facility

PORT COQUITLAM (NEWS1130) – A Vernon man found not criminally responsible for killing and dismembering his friend due to a mental disorder will spend at least one year in a mental health facility.

The detention order for 37-year-old Kenneth Barter was issued by the BC Review Board.

Barter, who suffers from Schizophrenia, will be housed at the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital in Port Coquitlam and his case will be reviewed in a year’s time.

He admitted to killing and dismembering his 32-year-old friend Nathan Mayrhofer last August.

The Crown says Barter attacked the Lumby man with a hammer, then cut up the body and stored the remains in his fridge, after having delusions that Mayrhofer was threatening Barter’s father.
