Cabinet standing behind Premier Christy Clark

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The premier is showing resolve amid the controversy over a ethnic outreach plan.

Christy Clark and her cabinet appear united after a hastily organized get-together last night.

For their part, cabinet ministers left the meeting saying the same as when they walked in three hours earlier, offering their support for the premier.

“We’re as unified behind our leader as we ever have been, and the NDP are going to lose the election in May, and we’re going into it with Christy Clark. That’s all you need to know,” declared Rich Coleman.

“Christy Clark is going to be our premier, and she’s going to be our leader,” said Bill Bennett.

“The premier is up to the task, and we’re certainly committed to supporting her today,” said Shirley Bond.

“Resolve. Support, resolve, a good feeling of solidarity,” is how Mike de Jong put it.

Ministers downplayed talk of a rift in caucus, and dismissed a Surrey group’s call for the premier to resign.

Clark emerged from the meeting to talk about her team and the work ahead of her. “It’s a great team of people, and it is my privilege to lead this group of people.”

She laughed off a question about whether she will resign and told reporters a budget vote this week will show where caucus stands.

Clark also took the opportunity to repeat the apology she issued in a statement last week for the content of the leaked outreach plan. “I sincerely apologize for the language that was used in that document. It’s language that just isn’t worth repeating.”

The controversy erupted last Wednesday after the NDP released a leaked Liberal ethnic outreach plan.
