Women’s group reacting to Kamloops grad party sex assault

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A local women’s group says attitudes need to change, following a sex assault at a grad party in Kamloops this past Tuesday.

The organization feels boys are being raised to disrespect women.

Dalya Israel with Women Against Women Against Violence Rape Crisis Centre says one in three girls in their lifetime will be sexually assaulted and too often people blame the woman when there is an assault.

“With all of the different things that we are providing girls to do better be more vigilant to stop rape from happening, we are actually telling girls that they are responsible for the rapes that are happening to them.”

She says boys need to be told to stop raping girls.

A 17-year-old girl says she was approached by a stranger and sexually assaulted at a grad party held in the bushes this past week.

Mounties believe there are pictures of the incident, and the force has received images from the event.
