Lawyer troubled by tour of home of accused in terror plot

SURREY (NEWS1130) – A media tour of the Surrey home of a couple accused in a plot to set off explosives at the BC Legislature is drawing criticism and concern.

The lawyer for the man facing terrorism charges is troubled by it.

Tom Morino says the walk-through by a number of reporters is an example of a story that’s taking a life of its own.

“I’m not being critical of the media,” he says. “They are just doing their job. But I’m a bit concerned, as I say that things seem to be spinning a bit out of control.”

He’s planning to meet with the accused, John Nuttall and Amanda Korody, before a court appearance next week.

Morino says the couple may ask him to go to the suite, but he’s now wondering whether the media tour might somehow affect their defence.

“Now that that has likely been disturbed, that aspect of my client’s potential defence has potentially been removed. I mean, that’s purely hypothetical on my part, I understand, but still I am troubled by it all,” he tells us.

The BC Civil Liberties Association has also expressed concern the home’s landlord allowed the media inside the suite.
