‘Save BC Film’ calling it quits

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – A group that gained a high profile just in time for the last provincial election is calling it quits.

Wayne Bennett with ‘Save BC Film‘ says the group is fading to black.

He says they can claim credit to having raised the profile of the industry in the province, despite failing to convince the government to boost tax credits to better compete with Ontario and Quebec. “We just have to work with them and continue to show them that again, it’s not just the money that’s going out. There’s a significant amount of money that comes in with every production that lands in British Columbia.”

Bennett adds they also managed to raise awareness on the size of the industry in BC. “We’re not all people who live in southern California and come up here and work and take our money back to the States. We are people that live in your neighbourhood and are your soccer coaches and stand behind you in the line at Walmart.”

Bennett notes the local industry is seeing a lot more business these days, and he’s hoping to keep moving in a positive direction.
