A look at “moustache discrimination” in the workplace

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It looks good for Movember, but what if you’re thinking of keeping that moustache past December 1st?

There is such thing as a moustache ceiling, according to the American Mustache Institute, the world’s only facial hair advocacy and research organization; it’s dedicated to battling discrimination against the moustached community.

The AMI has released the first major study on facial hair in the workplace since 1991, and it shows an overwhelming number of people support facial hair in the workplace, but those who sport ‘staches still face some hurdles.

Seventy-one per cent of people surveyed say they work with a “moustached male or female” at least once per week, and more than 45 per cent work daily with someone who has general facial hair. Yet, only 30 per cent report having a supervisor with facial hair.

The AMI says it’s a sure sign of discrimination against the moustachioed..
