Vancouver pubs expected to be packed with Seahawks “12s”

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It’ll be a sea of blue in Vancouver bars and pubs but it won’t be for hockey, as “12s” watch the Seattle Seahawks try for another shot at the Superbowl. The Hawks take on the Green Bay Packers for the NFC Championship title with football fans on this side of the border watching.

The Seahawks fan base also known as the “12th man” has grown in the lower mainland says Matthew Kittle with downtown Vancouver’s Red Card Sports Bar. “Vancouver has a lot of football fans in general, it’s kind of spread out like everyone has their team. But because there’s no Vancouver team and what we’ve seen, we’ve seen a lot more turnout and we’ve been pretty much full for every Seahawks game even from week one.”

He says the success of last season has carried on, bringing a high energy but friendly atmosphere no matter who folks cheer for. “They’re the most local team for us, right, so once they start winning and their putting up good numbers and when they win the Superbowl it kind of draws more attention to them, and people become more fans and more engaged in the games.”

He hopes our neighbouring NFL team wins, not just because he’s a supporter but it’ll be good for business.
Game time at Century Link is at noon on Sunday.
