Holt Renfrew expansion in part to keep up with changing landscape: expert

By

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – The expansion of Downtown Vancouver’s Holt Renfrew is in part to compete with the incoming Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue stores, according to some experts.

But Craig Patterson with Retail Insider says that’s not the only reason.

“To beef up its operations. The clientele that are shopping at Holt Renfrew are shopping around the world so Holts really wants to improve its offerings to compete with the best luxury stores in the world, not just those in Canada or in Vancouver,” he explains.”Holt Renfrew had planned for a number of years to do this expansion I’ve been told. But certainly I think they are addressing the competition as well. Nordstrom is going to do a 230,000 square foot store, it’ll be a bit bigger than Holt Renfrew.”

The luxury shop is taking over the existing Sport Check and Atmosphere stores and will add 40,000 square feet.

Not only is Holt tripling its hand bag space to 30,000 square feet, it’s bringing in “the apartment” where you can take a shower and have a gourmet meal while shopping designers. This room is by invitation only.
