We are quick to point the finger at others when it comes to distracted driving: poll

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Mixed messages on distracted driving from Canadians on the road. An RBC poll found 72 per cent of Canadians admit to some form of distracted driving, yet almost nine-in-10 say they noticed the bad behaviour in others behind the wheel.

“Which is a good thing because that means you are paying attention to what is going on around you so you are seeing what other people are doing. It’s always easier to point out other peoples mistakes than it is to realize that you may have some of your own behaviors that may be contributing to dangers on the roads and risks on the road by being distracted,” says Natalie Dupuis from RBC Insurance.

She says it show how many drivers are just not getting the message. “Distracted driving has caused about 16 per cent of them to be in a collision or a near collision so close calls. In particular I would say younger drivers much much higher than more experienced drivers.”

The poll also revealed that 18 per cent or respondents still believe they’re a great multi-tasker and can do something else.
