Survey calling on youth to grade Surrey

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – How would you rate the city you live in? A local charity has launched a survey asking young people living in Surrey to grade their city.

John Kageorge with the non-profit group SurreyCares says young people make up a third of the community, that’s why it is targeting those between 12 and 24 years of age.

He says trying to know their struggle and problems.

“[We want them to] assign an A, B, C, D or a failing grade on how we’re doing on health, poverty, crime reduction, safety, transportation and the issues that matter most to them.”

He says the information is needed to make improvements in services especially as the city grows.

“Is policing the right thing? What’s going on in the schools? We think the insight from the school corridors is what we need to do to make a better Surrey.”

Last fall, people living in Surrey responded to a similar survey and in the end gave the city a “C” grade.
