A breath of fresh air, as smoke begins to move away

LOWER MAINLAND (NEWS 1130) – Maybe you can finally — quite literally — breathe a big sigh of relief.

The air across the South Coast has certainly improved as smoke continues to drift into the Interior, even though an air quality advisory continues for much of the region.

The Air Quality Health Index is sitting at “low” for Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley this morning, though it is expected to increase again later today to “moderate” because of the fine particulate matter still in the air from 182 wildfires burning across BC.

Regardless, even people with health problems should have no troubles with normal outdoor activities in much of the region today.

In Squamish, the Index is at “moderate” this morning and in Whistler there has been no relief with readings still in the high range.

Sea to Sky Country will continue to see the highest readings in the region today and tomorrow, with two large wildfires burning uncontrolled in the Pemberton area.
