METRO VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – With lots of heat and no rain in the forecast, water restrictions in Metro Vancouver could soon become more stringent.
The regional district makes that decision based on advice from its engineers.
Darrell Mussatto with Metro Vancouver says we’re using about 1.4 billion litres of water day. We need to take that down to 1.3 billion.
If we keep using as much water as we are now, we’ll likely be moving to Stage 3 sooner than later.
“It could be next week. It could be two or three weeks away. We don’t know. But it certainly is not out of the realm of possibility of looking at moving to Stage 3, should our consumption levels continue to stay high,” explains Mussatto.
Under Stage 3 restrictions, we would not be allowed to water our lawns at all. Click here for details on what each stage means.
“We are stressing the reservoirs. We do have a limited supply; there’s not much flow coming into them now, and we are urging people not to waste a drop of water,” he adds.
We’ve been under Stage 2 restrictions since July 3rd.
