Crews still trying to contain the Wood Lake fire near Harrison Hot Springs

By

HARRISON HOT SPRINGS (NEWS 1130) – A fast-moving wildfire is still burning out of control near Harrison Hot Springs.

Crews have been working tirelessly trying to get a handle on the Wood Lake Fire. Wind has played a big part in fanning the flames.

The fire is at least 600 hectares in size. Two campsites have been evacuated.

Donna MacPherson with the Coastal Fire Centre says air tankers were working steadily yesterday and the day before, but the wind still managed to grow the blaze.

“We’re going to be reassessing its growth and we’ll continue to work on containment, and we’ll be focusing on the southern portion of the fire, just in case the wind shifts, we don’t want it moving toward Harrison Lake in any way,” she tells us.

MacPherson says the growth has been northward, away from any homes.

Firefighters will be focusing on the southern part of the blaze in case the wind shifts and sends the fire toward Harrison Lake.

“We’re going to be reassessing the need to move the people out of the way that are working or camping to the far north of this fire. While this fire may not be impacting them directly, it could impact their ability to get out.”

Macpherson adds more resources are coming into the area today.
