Thieves in Abbotsford break into family’s moving truck, steal everything

ABBOTSFORD (NEWS 1130) – A devastating blow for an American family travelling through BC to get to Alaska to see their military father.

All of their life’s possessions have been stolen from their U-Haul truck in Abbotsford.

Anna Spencer and her five children are back on the road, but they’re leaving BC shocked and disappointed.

She was looking forward to the BC leg of the trip because she had heard good things about Canadians, but now she’s disheartened.

“What can I do? Is it out of my hands. What can I do?”

The U-Haul was parked at a hotel on North Parallel Road in Abbotsford and at about 3:30 a.m. Monday someone drove off with it.

Constable Ian MacDonald says they have found the truck, some stuff has been recovered and they’re looking over surveillance footage.

“The video is in darkness — it’s not night-vision cameras. You can certainly see headlights and the outlines of two vehicles but it’s near impossible to make out an actual suspect description.

He says the family is trying to stay strong even though they’ve lost so much. ”

“They are a remarkable family. Anna is a remarkable woman. She was handling this with some help from her husband from a distance — a million times better than I can imagine dealing with this situation myself. Although she was very emotional, she was still grateful for everyone who was offering any assistance. She was appreciative of what little we were able to do to help her out.”

Some of the items stolen include the husband’s military gear, family pictures and items belonging to Spencer’s deceased father.

Abbotsford Police speak to Anna Spencer about the theft of her U-Haul trailer containing most of the belongings of the family of 7 headed from Georgia to Alaska.
