Storm damage ends Surrey Night Market’s season

By

SURREY (NEWS 1130) – The Surrey Night Market has been forced to shut down for the rest of the summer because of extensive damage from the windstorm.

“All the tents got devastated. They were thrown away,” says Garry Grewal with the market.

“We had blimps that were ripped apart. Within a matter of 35-40 minutes, everything was brought down. By the time I reached there, it was totally devastated. We tried repairing it, but it was beyond control. We thought of shutting it down because it was not easy to repair it.”

“There are only three weeks left so we [decided to shut] it down and re-open it next year in June,” he adds.

Grewal says this early closure will mean a big financial loss to the vendors and the Surrey Night Market management. “We haven’t yet calculated the loss, but it looks like it could be more than $100,000.”
