Many drivers don’t understand four-way stop procedures: police

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – As we saw a few days ago, some people don’t obey the four-way stop procedure when the traffic lights are out.

Delta Police Chief Neil Dubord say a lot of drivers still don’t understand how to do the four-way stop procedure when there is more than one lane. “On most intersections where there is just a single lane of traffic going in either direction most drivers get those but where I think a lot of the confusion come from is when there is multiple lanes of traffic on a really busy road and Nordel Way is an exact example of that.”

Dubord notes handing out tickets isn’t his department’s number one priority when there’s a wind storm and wide-spread power outages. “Our officers were also in demand at other locations so typically you won’t see us waiting at intersections to give out a ticket but should we see someone driving without due care and attention on the road, or if there is an accident, we will give out tickets.

Dubord adds his officers did issue some tickets to people who didn’t follow the proper four-way stop procedure.
