Elizabeth May tweeted her way into the leaders’ debate

VICTORIA – Green party Leader Elizabeth May says she wasn’t invited but she still managed to participate in last night’s election debate through social media.

While Stephen Harper, Tom Mulcair and Justin Trudeau debated face-to-face in Calgary, May was at a Victoria church furiously sending tweets in hopes of scoring political points.

May admits she wanted to be in the room with the three leaders, but she was able to engage thousands of Canadians on social media.

May regularly tweeted 30-second video clips on issues the leaders discussed in Calgary, including her views on immigration, housing and the economy.

Statistics provided by Twitter Canada says May received more than 14,000 retweets and favourites during the debate and gained 39-hundred followers on Twitter on Thursday.

More than 500 Green Party supporters packed the United church hall and cheered wildly each time May appeared on a large screen at the front of church where her tweets were broadcast.
