Conservatives promise to match donations to the Terry Fox Foundation

TRI-CITIES (NEWS 1130) – The Tories are promising to match donations, dollar for dollar, to the Terry Fox Foundation — if they are re-elected.

James Moore is not running for re-election but was the man the to make the announcement for the Tories over the weekend.

“It’d be nice if the other political parties would all double down on our commitment to stand with the legacy of Terry Fox and say that regardless of what happens on October 19th, they will recognize Terry Fox is a hero and will move forward. But it’s a commitment that, for sure, will be met by Stephen Harper, should he be re-elected.”

Moore says the party is not using Terry Fox’s name to score political points.

“People are going to be voting in a month’s time and they want to know what the different things parties are going to do, should they be elected. One of the things that we want to do — because we are in a position of having balanced budgets and surpluses — is invest in cancer research, cancer prevention, and support the legacy of Terry Fox.”

Moore also announced a plan to donate $12.5 million to UBC for cancer research.
