Premier promising investigation into ministry of children and families

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) The premier admits her Minister of Children and Families had no idea an 18-year-old boy in care had been living in a hotel for months after his group home closed.

Another investigation is being launched at the ministry to find out how Alex Gervais died after falling from a hotel window last week.

Christy Clark has not asked Children’s Minister Stephanie Cadieux to resign or fired the agency contracted to manage Alex Gervais’ case.

She says the contracted agency didn’t report that they had kids in hotels, something that is against policy. “The ministry is doing a full and thorough review to make sure that every single delegated agency and everyone who works to support these children who are in government care has properly reported. You’ll see the results of that review when it’s that’s done and it should be done very, very quickly.”

This is not the first time Cadieux has come under fire. There have been numerous damning reports on the Children’s Ministry from the BC Representative for Children and Youth. And most recently it was revealed through a BC Supreme Court case that ministry staff ignored pleas from a mother and her kids and placed children back with their sexually abusive father, only for them to be abused again.
