Lower Mainland gas prices spike overnight

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Around some parts of the Lower Mainland overnight, gas prices jumped at the pump by nearly 8 cents to $1.17 a litre.

Dan McTeague with tomorrowsgaspricetoday.com says you better get used to it as prices in the Vancouver-area are trending upward. “Right across the US there has been a number of planned maintenance. Refineries can’t run at a 100 per cent all year. Demand is up; supply of course is not adequate. That is one of the main reasons why prices have gone up.”

McTeague says it’s hard to predict how prices will fluctuate from here on out. “You are going to continue to see the shift away from crude fluxuation to gasoline being king in terms of the determination of price. In that we have to be careful as to the supply and demand picture on gasoline south of the border.”

He adds we also buy a lot of our fuel from the States, which is tough with the weak loonie.

Remember, BC also pays some of the highest gas taxes in the country.
