Trudeau, Harper, May spend final campaign day in BC

LOWER MAINLAND (NEWS 1130) – The second-longest election campaign in Canadian history is officially over.

The polls opened at 7 a.m. after Stephen Harper, Justin Trudeau and Thomas Mulcair made their final pitches to voters last night.

BC played a part in the last-day push from at least two of the leaders.

Justin Trudeau spent last evening in North Vancouver. In the very same riding where his grandfather was once an MP.

“It’s incredibly special and moving to be here tonight in the place that has meant so much to me and to my family,” said Trudeau.

“We are just hours away from something very, very special,” he said. “We have the chance to bring real change to Canada and bring an end to the Harper decade.”

Meanwhile Stephen Harper also touched down in BC, speaking in Abbotsford before flying home to Calgary where he’ll vote today.

NDP leader Thomas Mulcair won’t be voting today; he already did so during advanced voting.

Mulcair wrapped things up with rallies in Toronto and Montreal, while Green Party leader Elizabeth May ended her campaign in Victoria.
