Fully immersive haunted house opens in Metro Vancouver

RICHMOND (NEWS 1130) – Do you like to be terrified? The creators of a new Halloween haunted house in Metro Vancouver are dying to see you. In fact, the folks behind Fearmongers promise you will be so frightened, you’ll lose control — maybe quite literally.

“I wanted to get sponsored by Depends. I think that would be hilarious,” laughs director Josh Green.

“Fearmongers is about 12,000 square feet of obstacle-course-meets-haunted-house. There’s blood and mud and climbing and crawling and falling. It’s very intense.”

Green calls it a ‘fully immersive’ experience that will take you through the horrors and monsters of Greek Mythology.

Tickets are not cheap, starting at $66.66, but the experience lasts over an hour, leading you through 14 different rooms with a promise to test your every limit by uncovering your most visceral fears.

“You keep traveling and you never know when you’re done. You are going to get dirty so I recommend you wear your worst clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty,” he says.

And maybe Green isn’t completely joking about the adult diapers.

“I love playing on visceral fears. If you’re scared of heights, you’ll be climbing in this haunted house. If you’re scared of spiders, we have live creatures in the haunted house. I just wanted something more than a normal walk-through haunted house where people pop out and scare you.”

Green says rather than jump scares there are slow, intense build-ups to terror to the point where you just don’t want to be there anymore.

But don’t worry, if things end up too intense for your liking, there is a safe word that will end your experience and get you escorted out to the real world.

“It’s Oklahoma. Just in case,” Green chuckles.

Fearmongers “Myths and Monsters” opens tomorrow on Burrows Rd. near No. 6 Rd. in Richmond and runs every night through November 22. You have to book your tickets in advance.
