Movember returns with the MOVE Challenge

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – The hairiest month of the year is almost here!

We are one week away from the start of Movember, the annual fundraiser where men grow moustaches for a good cause.

New this year is the MOVE Challenge, where you sign up and pledge to be physically active for every day of the month.

“You’ll see a lot of older men in sweat bands and neons, kind of `80s workout gear,” jokes Jesse Hayman, Director of Community Engagement with Movember. “But the idea is to get moving, so, just like a Mo Bro can sign up and grow his moustache, now we have the option for Mo Bros and Mo Sistas to sign up and make that commitment to move.”

Hayman says exercise is essential to good health, especially when it comes to fighting cancer. “Whether it’s cancer pre-treatment, post-treatment, or just trying to avoid [it], and the same thing on the mental health side, going for a run, doing a little workout, getting in a yoga session…you’re way better off, depending on how fit you were going into it,” Hayman explains.

Last year, Canadians once again led the world in Movember fundraising, raking in $24 million for prostate cancer research and men’s health initiatives.
