North Vancouver mayor wants one-zone crossing for SeaBus

NORTH VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Now that all buses across Metro Vancouver are one-zone, is it fair that people taking the SeaBus still have to pay for two?
TransLink got rid of bus zones earlier this month thanks to complications with the Compass Card, but they remain up for SkyTrain and SeaBus passengers.
Now North Vancouver mayor Darrell Mussatto is calling on the transit authority to get rid of the extra fee, saying it’s unfair that bus riders crossing the bridge pay nearly half what people on the water pay.
“First of all I don’t think they have enough buses to put on the routes if that happens. Number two, if they do that is contributing to more greenhouse gases that are introduced so we have a SeaBus that’s working well, let’s make sure people sure it.”
“It might an inequity for some who need to take the SeaBus, but more importantly it might discourage people from taking the SeaBus and start using the buses….so we are trying to make sure it’s fair for everybody leaving the North Shore to have a one zone pass,” he explains.
Mussatto is also asking for the other two North Shore mayors for their support. He says he’s yet to hear back from TransLink about the possible change.
