Fire breaks out in Surrey barn, causes closure of 16th Avenue

By

SURREY (NEWS 1130 – Surrey RCMP and firefighters were called to the scene of a burning barn on 16th avenue and it appears the blaze broke out around noon on Wednesday.

Although no injuries have been reported, we are told that a passerby who was on the scene before emergency crews did some rescuing of his own.

“There were horses that were let go by a bystander who arrived on the scene first and we are trying to make a count of these horses and make sure they’re all accounted for but it’s unknown at this time”, says Surrey Fire Department’s Assistant Chief Chris Keon.

Surrey RCMP’s Sgt. Paul Hayes confirms that 16th avenue has been closed off between Highway 99 and 168th Street as a result of fire crews laying hoses across the road to put the blaze out.

16th Avenue will be closed while emergency crews remain on the scene until the fire is completely out.

An investigation into the cause of the fire will be launched once the situation is deemed safe.
