Real estate group worries media is scaring off home buyers

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Have you been scared off from even trying to invest in Metro Vancouver’s housing market because of stories about high prices?

A local group is encouraging you to do your own research and says you may reconsider once you do.

“There are a lot of people out there that are probably frightened away by what they hear in the media or read in the papers or online about the big numbers that are showing up for average prices but when you do break it down by neighbourhood, which most people don’t either take the opportunity or have the opportunity to do, you’re not getting the real picture,” explains Darcy McLeod with the Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver. “And makes them feel like what’s the point in even looking, well the point of even looking is that real estate is a fantastic investment still.”

McLeod says words like overheated, over-inflated and million are some of the triggers to make people believe they can’t afford here.

“There’s still value out there in the marketplace and there’s opportunities for buyers.”
