What is the long-term outlook for retailers across the line?

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – How is the dropping loonie affecting retailers south of the line over the long term? Will your favourite stores survive?

Guy Occhiogrosso, the president and CEO of the Bellingham/Whatcom County Chamber of Commerce says stores probably won’t be closing. He says purchases by Canadians are considered a bonus rather than absolutely necessary.

“How it will impact the stores might be in lesser inventory turnover, so we might not get as frequent shipments from suppliers. It will probably impact local employment.”

Occhiogrosso says some retailers may change how much they buy so they won’t have as much in terms of variety and sizes when it comes to clothes, or in variety in products in general.
