Vancouver Aquarium offering free admission to those with low incomes

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – People with low incomes who live in the City of Vancouver are being offered free admission to the Vancouver Aquarium through an expansion of the Park Board’s Leisure Access Pass Program.

The facility’s Director of Visitor Experience Karen Howe explains how it works.

“There is an income measurement that is managed all by the community centres and individuals interested go to the community centre to set up the application process there. They then receive a card which they will swipe at our front door and the visit will be pre-loaded on the card.”

The Aquarium says the facility is an important learning place for young kids and their families, and they want to make sure it’s accessible for everybody.

“As a conservation organization, our aim is to connect as many people as possible to the world of aquatic life to spark curiosity and a lifelong interest in protecting our imperilled oceans,” explains Dr. John Nightingale, Vancouver Aquarium Marine Science Centre president and CEO.

This new program starts March 12th.
