Chronic distracted driving offender pulled over yet again in Vancouver

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – A woman with over a dozen distracted driving infractions in under five years has been pulled over by the cops again.
Earlier this month, Richmond RCMP issued a ticket to a driver who nearly crashed into a police cruiser, and then tweeted a photo of the woman’s past distracted driving convictions.
Less than a week later, she was pulled over in Vancouver, receiving her 14th distracted driving ticket.
“Unfortunately, following the coverage with the Richmond ticket that was issued quite recently, one of our traffic members recognized this same woman as the person who did receive a ticket on March 7th [in Richmond] for a very similar offense,” says VPD Sergeant Randy Fincham.
“This is a driver who does have a Bluetooth system in the car but is choosing to text and drive at the same time, which is extremely risky behaviour,” he adds.
“Unfortunately, we are dealing with a driver who simply isn’t getting the message that distracted driving is risking people’s lives and has killed people.”
Fincham says the VPD is working with the Superintendent of Motor Vehicles to try to have the driver’s driving history reviewed, “with the hopes that once looked at, that driver quite possibly could lost their license or have their license suspended.”
Officers around the Lower Mainland today are taking part in a heightened distracted driving enforcement campaign.
The fine for distracted driving is a $167 fine, plus three points against your driving record. The group “Drop it and Drive,” which advocates against distracted driving, wants to see the fine increased to a minimum $500.
