Province won’t buy Maple Ridge hotel to house homeless

MAPLE RIDGE (NEWS 1130) – The province will not be purchasing the former Quality Inn hotel in Maple Ridge to house some of the city’s homeless population.

A community meeting was scheduled for this evening to discuss this idea. As a result of this development, that meeting has been cancelled.

But Housing Minister Rich Coleman says there will be a long-term solution for Maple Ridge’s homeless population.

Victoria is committing $15 million for another site, with land to be provided by the city. A location still needs to be worked out.

The province says it is also working with the city to extend the opening of the 40-bed temporary shelter from March 31st to June 30th.
