Marijuana task force coming soon: health minister

OTTAWA (NEWS 1130) – The federal health minister says a new marijuana task force that will soon be unveiled, will help the government draft legislation by studying every aspect of legalization.

Before the government unveils its bill to make pot legal, which will happen in the spring of next year, the government needs to figure out the best regulatory system for our country.

So a marijuana task force is being set up and, Health Minister Jane Philpott tells our talk show Macleans on the Hill, it will report back to the government on the main concerns about legalization

“Who will have liscence to produce marijuana? Where it will be sold? What kind of public education program will be put in place? What other ways can we make sure people are aware of the potential risks associated with the use of marijuana? What are the considerations in terms of impairment?”

Minister Philpott won’t say when the report is expected to be presented to cabinet, but says those details will come out when the membership of the task force is made public, which will happen very soon.
