Metro Vancouver transit bus drivers vote to strike

By

VANCOUVER(NEWS 1130) – If you take the bus or SeaBus to work, we have some potentially bad news down the road.

Coast Mountain Bus Co. workers have voted 98% in favour of strike action.

More than 4,500 bus drivers, maintenance and trades workers are calling for better wages, work schedules and benefits.

In a previous interview, Unifor Local 111 president Nathan Woods said in the past five years, the system has been crunched with additional riders and traffic.

Coast Mountain says while the result of the strike vote was a yes, the union has not given any indication of providing strike notice and they don’t anticipate any disruption to service at this time.

The company says it remains committed to reaching an acceptable negotiated settlement.
