Western premiers press feds for more healthcare funding

VANCOUVER (NEWS 1130) – Western Premiers argue the Liberal government need to dedicate more money to the health care system.

Justin Trudeau’s government should pay a quarter of the cost according to Premier Christy Clark.

The federal government used to pick up half the bill when it came to healthcare, but Clark says that figure is closer to 17 per cent and set to drop further.

“The federal formula for healthcare was changed by the previous government and that’s set to take effect in the next year or so.

The new federal government is promising to change that.

“Premiers are pressing the federal government to enter into discussions to ensure that those improvements in healthcare funding are made.”

Clark and other premiers are making that push as they conclude talks this weekend in Vancouver.
